We are committed to helping our community learn about everyday environmental issues.  We encourage all of our residents, City & County, to participate in one or all of these activities to help the Leon County Community care for the environment.  If you have additional questions you can call the Recycling Program at 606-1823 or our Community Education Coordinator at 606-1827.

November 14: Electronics Recycling Collection Event

9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Home Depot

Capital Circle NE

Bring your old, outdated, and obsolete electronics to our collection event for recycling. This is a FREE event for Leon County residents only (no businesses).

You may bring:

Computers (monitors, laptops, keyboards, CPUs, mice, speakers, external drives, modems and printers)

Televisions

Telephones, including cell phones, fax machines, pagers and answering machines

Electronic games such as game systems, hand-held games and other

Radios, DVD and CD players, DVD and CD cases, tape players

Scanners

Copy Machines

November 14: America Recycles Day

Recycling Day Event will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Home Depot on Capital Circle NE. K-12 public and private schools can bring aluminum cans for cash and compete for a $100 gift card from Home Depot. The top school winner in each category will also take home a unique trophy and bragging rights for the year. "CANtributors" will be paid $0.30 per pound of aluminum beverage cans.

Residents can also bring electronics to this event for recycling. Visit our electronics recycling page for a list of acceptable items. Reuse books at the book swap. Bring a book to swap with others. Leftover books will be given to the Goodwill Bookstore.

NOVEMBER 9-13: Is your school's green team an active recycling group? If so, we want to know. Create a display showing what your team does to promote the 3Rs at your school and bring it to the Department of Education for show. Contact Tiffany Herrin for more information.
