Leon County  is committed to giving every child the best possible experience with youth sports. We require that all coaches and volunteers participating in Leon County  youth sports programs undergo a local law enforcement assisted background check.  For more information on how you may become involved in youth sports programs please call (850) 606-1470.

Responsibility for the establishment and continuance of youth sports and other recreation services is the task of community based local recreation councils. These recreation councils are appointed by the Leon County Board of County Commissioners, and take the lead role in brining activities to their communities. While the County is still responsible for the majority of maintenance at the facilities, each council purchases their own operating supplies and program materials.

Recreation Councils currently active within the unincorporated areas of Leon County are the Woodville Recreation Council, the Fort Braden Recreation Council, Miccosukee Recreation Council, Northwest Recreation Council, and the Chaires-Capitola Recreation Council.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Team believes it is important to promote the establishment of recreation councils to provide recreation services throughout Leon County. It is also important to ensure these groups are acting in the best interest of Leon County Parks & Recreation and the citizens of Leon County. This is accomplished through guidelines established by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Team and approved by the Board of County Commissioners. In return, Leon County Parks & Recreation will ensure the long term viability of these organizations by providing the necessary resources and assistance to develop new programs and activities.  Little League Baseball, INC and www.bigbendpopwarner.org, are just some of the resources currently being implemented.

For more information on Recreation Councils and to learn how to get involved in your community call  (850) 606-1470
