The Tallahassee/Leon County Enterprise Zone became effective January 1, 2003 and was re-designated by the State of Florida on January 1, 2006. Almost twenty square miles in size with a population of 52,790, the Enterprise Zone is located in the central, southern and western portions of the community and lies within both the corporate limits of Tallahassee and Leon County.

An Enterprise Zone is a specific geographic area targeted for economic revitalization. Enterprise Zones encourage economic growth and investment in distressed areas by offering tax advantages and incentives to qualified businesses located within the zone boundaries. There are currently 55 Enterprise Zones within the State of Florida.

The Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County, Inc. (EDC) is the administrator of the Tallahassee/Leon County Enterprise Zone.

ENTERPRISE ZONE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

The Enterprise Zone Development Agency (EZDA) consists of eleven members and is charged with administering the activities of the Tallahassee/Leon County Enterprise Zone. The members of the EZDA, as prescribed by State Statutes, represent the County and City Commissions, Enterprise Zone area businesses, residents, non-profit agencies, local financial institutions, local workforce development board, chamber of commerce, law enforcement and code enforcement board.
