Project Completed
Work was completed on the Orange Avenue Construction Project
in November 2006, nine months ahead of schedule. The project extended from south Monroe Street to Blair Stone
Road, and included widening of the roadway from two to four lanes, installation of sidewalks, bike lanes, curbs and gutters, a stormwater drainage system and landscaping.
The roadway improvements benefit the community,
providing for better traffic flow and enhanced opportunities for
pedestrian and bicyclist activity. The total construction cost was $28
million and is being funded by the one cent local option sales tax approved by Leon County voters in 1989 to finance road improvements. The planning for this road project began more than 10 years ago. The public’s input was integral in the road design.
The Board of County Commissioners thanks the many residents in the area for their patience during this transition.
The Board celebrated the grand opening of Orange
Avenue with a block party and community parade on November 4.
