Commissioner Dailey was elected to the Board in November
2006. His priorities are sustainable growth, environmental protection,
and economic development.
Commissioner John Dailey has had public service in his
sights his entire life. As the son of Dr. John Scott Dailey, the former
Executive Director of the Florida Institute of Government and a former
two-term Leon County School Board member, John learned at an early age how
government can positively affect people’s lives.
Commissioner Dailey began his professional career at the
Florida League of Cities where he worked on legislative and regulatory
issues involving local governance. In 2001, he went to work for the National
League of Cities in Washington, DC, where he gained a comprehensive
understanding of the issues facing local governments; issues as diverse as
economic development and community redevelopment to criminal justice and
public safety.
Dailey’s academic experience also focused on government.
While earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree
in Public Administration from Florida State University, he gained valuable
experience as the President of the Student Government Association and worked
at the Leon County Office of Management and Budget. John also earned a
Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from The London School of
Economics, while simultaneously working as a legislative aide to a Member of
Parliament.
Currently, Commissioner Dailey works as a commercial
realtor for Ketchum Realty Group, Inc.
John and his wife, Ginny, celebrated their tenth
wedding anniversary in December.
